DOWNTOWN. A traditional dance club, Afterlife combines a multi-level space with a variety of music to great effect. It's wildly popular, especially with an energetic young crowd. Décor is modern industrial with exposed ducts and beams, flashing lights and huge dance floors. The roof top patio offers a slightly quieter respite.

DOWNTOWN. Wreck Room is a play on words ­ this place has a casual, rock-and-roll vibe with pool tables, a dance floor, arcade games and a huge bar, sort of like a glorified rec room. There's a stage for live acts, but usually DJs provide the sounds, which range from alt rock and Brit rock to retro and electronica.

DOWNTOWN. A big club with ample space for dancing or lounging, Devil's Martini has a 25+ door policy. It's a carefully groomed group, too, so don't show up in ripped jeans and a ball cap. The upstairs space is stylish and sleek and where most of the dancing takes place. Downstairs is more cozy and relaxed, with plenty of seating. Wherever you end up, cocktails and import beer are the beverages of choice.

WEST TORONTO. If you crave diversity, this is the place for you. The crowd is comprised of a wide range of ethnicities and persuasions, but everyone is here to party. Expect an equally broad variety of music, from reggae and salsa to house and hip-hop. Fun, midnight drag shows are a big draw as well.

DOWNTOWN. Located in the heart of Toronto's club district, Fluid has been a favorite since it opened in 1995. Weekly theme nights, flashy disco-ball lighting, lots of cool water features (to complement the moniker), multiple bars and several comfy seating areas make this a winner with wide appeal.
